Title Frame |
Present Day |

This animation shows how Colorado National Monument has evolved over the last 300 million years. It shows the deposition of the rock units in the area, the formation of the monocline at Colorado National Monument, and the recent downcutting of the Colorado river that has produced the current topography.
This animation was done in collaboration with Dr. William Hood, National Park Service geologic volunteer, Colorado National Monument.
The published work of various geologists was used to constrain the geology seen in this animation. Click here to see a complete list of references.
